I am most excited about startup opportunities in untouched markets, ha yeah… aren’t we all…

What I am saying is whatever your jam is don’t try and own the whole market — you might find that owning the narrowest piece and being laser focused on that piece of the market is best.

In a narrower market you can drive margins and not have to worry about the fluff or competition. You can always test, iterate and expand to other vertices later. But going after too much is like a slick tire on mud, you are just not going to make traction.

Even if it is a crowded market, what segments within that market are untouched or will give you the advantage? Is there one thing you can do that others are overlooking? Is there a special sauce or a pain point you have felt, and be laser focused on that.

Don’t be afraid to take your project, even if you are making money from it right now, and do more testing to dial in the acute pain point of your buyer. See if you can solve their problem even better.

Hi! Thanks for reading. I’m Theron, a founder, investor, and past banker. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great companies and brands like Pivotal Software and Silicon
